The Tribunal’s pay equity mandate

The Pay Equity Act requires certain employers to take a proactive approach to give men and women equal pay for doing work of equal value. 

The Tribunal has two jobs when it comes to the Pay Equity Act:

  1. The Pay Equity Commissioner can ask us to decide on important legal issues or on jurisdictional issues.
  2. If an employer, a bargaining agent, or someone else disagrees with a certain decision or order made by the Pay Equity Commissioner, they can appeal it to us.
